Is Change Really All That Great?

Have you ever stopped to think about how fast the world is changing? Nothing is the same as it was even just 5 or 10 years ago. Change can happen slowly and it can also happen in an instant. Just this year I have seen changes in technology, health care, schools, government, entertainment and countless other areas. In my house alone we have seen changes in career, changes in schedules, changes in the children that reside in our home, and changes to the people we care about and love. Even myself and my husband have changed.

It seems like the world is fixated on change. I am constantly being bombarded with the enticement of change...change your style, change your diet, change your relationship status, change is coming, change is good. And while I know that change can be important, I’m not convinced that change is all that great. With everything changing at such a rapid pace its hard to keep track of what is right and wrong, what is up and down, how should I be referring to that person, who is the best political candidate, etc. Is it really any wonder why we end up feeling lost and confused?

Even though things are changing in the world we reside in, it is important to remember that our God is never changing. He says in Malachi 3:6 "I the Lord do not change". Hebrew 13:8 also says "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever".

Not only is our God never changing, but He has also given us an instruction manual that never changes. Though the bible may seem outdated, it is absolutely still relevant today! In Hebrews 4:12 it says "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than a double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart". What a blessing it is for us to know that we never have to wonder what it is that God wants from us!

In a world that is changing and will continue to change, we must hold firm to God's word. It is so important to ground yourself in what He has told us about Himself because it has not and will not change! If we allow ourselves to stray from His words and get lost in the changes of the world, we start to become lukewarm and we fall prey to the distractions and sins of this world. 1 John 2:17 says " The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever".

Are you serving the world or God? Has the changing of this world become confusing and too much to handle? Remember that this world will always be changing, but we have a rock to anchor to that does not and will not change! As a last reminder I would like to leave you with this thought.... even though the world is ever changing, we never have to worry about what tomorrow will bring.

Matthew 6:25-34
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

15 Minute Challenge!

As a foster mom, I’m always trying to come up with ways to get to know the kids that come into our home a little better. A few months ago, I decided that I would give each child 15 minutes of uninterrupted one on one time each night to talk, play, read a story or whatever else they wanted to do with just the two of us. 15 minutes may not seem like a lot of time but between cleaning, cooking, school, homework, visits with parents and other things scheduled, 15 minutes of one on one time was all that we could realistically manage in our busy schedule. Over the course of a week worth of 15 minute appointments with each kid, I was spending an hour and 45 minutes of one on one time with each kid. It is a time that both me and the children look forward to and they have let me know that this time is valuable to them and makes them feel that they are important and loved. It gives us a time to reflect on the good and bad of the day and build a bond that may only last a few months, but that t...

Stepping Out and Standing Strong in Faith

As I’ve come into my adult years, I’ve begun to realize that making decisions and sticking to them is not as easy as it once was. It used to be so simple to have dreams that were bigger than myself. I would ponder constantly of all the wonderful things I was going to do with my life and nothing was too ambitious for me.  It was like looking into the future through rose colored glasses. Everything seemed so nice and shiny, nothing bad could ever happen. I only saw the good and looked forward to whatever the future was going to bring. When is it that we lose that childlike faith and reliance on God? It seems that the older I get and the more twists and turns life throws at me, the more I gain a sense of what I believe to be wisdom in regards to how the world works. I have started to see that every action has consequences and sometimes making a decision can be scary even if I feel like I'm being called by God. The more “wisdom” I gain from the world though, the less faith I...

My Relationship with Jesus

After last weeks post, some of you may be curious about how I plan to grow my relationship with Christ. Well I’m happy to tell you that this is exactly what my blog will be about. My goal is to share my journey to becoming on fire for Christ again and through my journey I hope to inspire others to look at their relationship with Christ As well. Before I get into talking about how I am improving my relationship with Christ, I would like to explain what it means to me to have a relationship with Christ. I know that I have at least a few family members and friends who do not know Christ but are still choosing to read this blog to support me and my venture. For them, I want to explain what it means to be a Christian and why I have chosen to follow Christ so passionately.  I know that before I became a Christian I used to think it was ridiculous  for anyone to believe in God and Jesus and I know I’m not the only one who has ever had ill informed thoughts about Christianity. ...
